How to connect your bank account
Connecting your bank lets abda automatically pull in your transactions and balances. This means you can see where your money goes without typing anything in by hand.
Before you start
You need to turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) in your account settings. This keeps your financial data extra safe. If you haven't set it up yet, go to Settings → Security → Two-Factor Authentication and follow the steps there first.
How to connect
- Open the Finance section from the left sidebar
- Go to the Accounts page
- Click Connect Bank Account
- A secure window from Plaid will pop up — Plaid is the service that safely connects to your bank
- Search for your bank or pick it from the list
- Sign in with the username and password you use for your bank's website or app
- If your bank asks for a verification code, enter it
- Choose which accounts you want to share (checking, savings, credit cards, etc.)
- Click Continue to finish
That's it! Your transactions and balances will start showing up in abda within a few minutes.
Some banks open their own sign-in page
A few banks (like Chase, Capital One, and Wells Fargo) will send you to their own website to sign in. This is completely normal and safe. Once you sign in there, you'll be sent back to abda automatically.
What abda can and can't do
- Can: See your transactions, balances, and account names
- Can't: Move your money, make payments, or see your bank password
Your bank login info is never stored by abda. Plaid handles the connection, and all your data is protected with strong encryption.
If your bank asks you to sign in again
Sometimes your bank will ask you to re-verify your connection. When this happens, you'll see a yellow banner on your Accounts page. Just click Reconnect and sign in again — your data will keep flowing after that.
How to remove a bank connection
If you want to disconnect a bank account:
- Go to Finance → Accounts
- Find the bank you want to remove
- Click Disconnect
- Confirm that you want to remove it
Once removed, abda will stop pulling in new transactions from that bank. Your past transaction history will still be available.
Is it safe to connect my bank?
Yes. abda uses Plaid, a trusted service used by thousands of apps. Your bank password is never stored by abda, and all data is encrypted.
Does connecting my bank cost anything?
No. Connecting your bank account is free.
Can abda move money out of my account?
No. abda has read-only access. It can only look at your transactions and balances — it can never move money or make changes to your account.
