How to create a financial goal
Go to Goals → Add Goal. Pick a type (Save Up or Pay Down), name it, set a target amount and date, choose how much you'll put in each month, and save.
- 1
Open the Goals page from the sidebar.
- 2
Click Add Goal.
- 3
At the top of the flow, choose the Save Up or Pay Down tab.
- 4
Pick the category that fits — e.g. Vacation under Save Up, or Credit Card under Pay Down.
This guide covers the Add Goal flow only. For what goals are and how they track progress, see Understanding financial goals. For using goals after you create one, see How to use your goals.
Before you start
- Decide what the goal is for. Every goal is either a Save Up goal (saving toward something) or a Pay Down goal (paying off debt).
- Have a ballpark number in mind. You can change the target later.
Step 1 — Pick your goal type
You can add more than one goal in a single session using the quantity stepper at the top of the flow.
Step 2 — Name it and set a target
- Name — something meaningful like "Family Trip to Hawaii" or "Chase Visa"
- Target amount (Save Up) — how much you want to save in total
- Current balance (Pay Down) — how much you owe right now
- Target date — when you'd like to reach it (optional but helps abda score your progress)
- Photo — optional, makes the goal feel real on your dashboard
Step 3 — Set a monthly plan
Enter how much you plan to put toward the goal each month. abda uses this to check whether you're on track.
On the same step, you'll see a toggle to connect a bank account. Linking is optional but makes progress tracking automatic. Skip it if you'd rather update your balance by hand. You can link one later — see How to use your goals.
Step 4 — Save and view
Click Save. Your new goal appears on the Goals page. Click View Goals to open it or Add another to create a second.
Important — abda does not touch your bank
Creating a goal does not move money, schedule a transfer, or change anything at your bank. A goal is a tracker. You still move money yourself — abda just watches the balance and tells you how you're doing.
Can I have more than one goal?
Yes — as many as you want. Mix Save Up and Pay Down freely.
Can I change the target later?
Yes. Open the goal, click Edit, and update the amount or date.
What if I don't link a bank during setup?
No problem. The goal gets created the same way. You can link a bank later, or track progress by updating your balance by hand.
