How to use your goals (track, update, edit, delete)
After you create a goal, use the Goals page to track progress, update your balance, link a bank for automatic tracking, and edit or delete the goal.
- 1
Open the goal's detail page.
- 2
Go to the Activity tab.
- 3
Click Update balance.
- 4
Enter the current balance and save.
- 5
Open the goal.
- 6
Click Connect bank or Assign account.
- 7
If you haven't linked a bank to abda yet, you'll go through Plaid first — see How to connect your bank.
- 8
Pick the account this goal should track. abda pulls your balance from that account.
abda never touches your bank account
This is the most important thing to know: creating or changing a goal in abda does nothing to your bank account. No transfer is scheduled, no money moves, nothing is paid. A goal is a tracker. You still move money yourself at your bank or app — abda just reads the balance and shows you how you're doing.
If you're looking to create a goal for the first time, see How to create a financial goal. For a conceptual overview — types of goals, how status is calculated, what Projections show — see Understanding financial goals.
Track progress
Open the Goals page from the sidebar to see all your goals. Click any goal to open its detail page, which shows:
- Progress bar — how close you are to the target
- Status badge — On track, At risk, Behind, Complete, or No target
- Activity tab — every balance update (from bank syncs and manual edits)
- Projections tab — a chart of your actual pace vs. required pace
For what each status badge means, see Understanding financial goals.
Update your balance
If the goal isn't linked to a bank, you'll update the balance yourself.
Each manual update appears in the activity log.
Link a bank to an existing goal
If you skipped linking during setup, you can link anytime.
Balances sync once per day after that. Save Up goals treat the linked balance as saved; Pay Down goals treat it as the remaining debt.
Edit a goal
Open the goal and click Edit. You can change:
- Name, photo, or category
- Target amount and target date
- Monthly plan
- Which bank account is linked (or unlink entirely)
Edits don't affect past history — your activity log and projections roll forward automatically.
Delete a goal
Open the goal, click Edit, scroll to the bottom, and click Delete goal. This removes the goal and its history. It doesn't affect anything at your bank.
Will abda move money to my savings account?
No. abda never moves money or makes changes at your bank. It only reads balances to track your progress. You move money yourself at your bank.
What if I miss a monthly contribution?
Nothing breaks. Your status will update so you can see where you stand. Adjust your monthly plan or target date to get back on track.
How often does a linked bank balance sync?
Once per day. You can also manually trigger a sync from the goal detail page.
Can I unlink a bank without losing progress?
Yes. Open the goal, click Edit, and unlink. Your past history stays. From then on, you'll update the balance manually.
